1 Poem by Catherine McGuire

Arse Poetica

A poem, at least, is a mindful pause
watching for the hungry stir
of attention, feline playing
with the day.
Or sliding the silver moments in a stack
across the flat green of Now
placing all your bets on Red or Green
ink on a page – it is shutting away
that nag of a conscience in the mind’s broom closet
ignoring the din; easing the fear
of the wasted moment with the pen’s ingenuity.
It is drawing the map as you go (like Harold’s
purple crayon) creating the landscape
then moving on.
It is squeezing life’s lemons into something
you can offer to the world.
