3 Poems by Lorraine Caputo

ENTRE RÍOS

I have watched the sun

      rise & set

            between these rivers

Beams slicing

      the blues of skies

            pale colors washing across

      the horizons

& waters

clear in the

      twilight of dawn

            dusky in approaching night

      mists drifting o’er

calm currents

I have watched the sun

      rise & set

            here, entre ríos

MUTE TO GREY

In the bright light of sun

The ticky-tacky houses

      climbing the steep

            sides of cerros

Are stark white, fuchsia

      gold, heavenly blue, chartreuse

But under the silver light of moon

& the dreams of their dwellers

The ticky-tacky houses

      mute to ghostly grey

SUSPENDING

I lie beneath

heavy warmth

      listening to

this night’s rain splash

upon worn

plaza stones

      listening to

a lone taxi’s

sizzle ‘cross

thin pavement

      listening to

my heart

pulsing …
