1 Poem by Mary Ellen Talley

A Window Is a Sea
           -Dean Young
She is a window

into which words swirl

in an effortless maze

of decomposition. There’s

no way out

even if she could find

the key to where the sea

meets the glassy pain

of resistance

previously called brittle

now a gelatinous mass

sliding as if the least touch

releases a jellyfish sting.

It is remarkably miniscule

with persistence to grow

given sips of fresh water.

Acidification is definitely

complicating her prognosis,

the miniscule made

a brilliant determining factor

of dumb luck –

or none.
