Restoration
You’ve carried the plan
since the days of your youth,
always knowing this day would come,
this moment in time
for reparation, restitution,
restoration … peace.
It matters not
that decades have passed,
nor does it matter the age that you’ve reached.
You accomplish
your task with skill
and precision,
a dedicated artisan,
effecting a canvas
a lifetime in the making,
and once complete,
you return home to bask
in the irony of what life has become,
thankful and appreciative
that no one in the household disturbs you
as you burn your clothing in a bonfire in the backyard.
