NEW ESTATE ON THE WAY
I know what the signs mean.
Bright orange splashed on a tree
is like a middle age's plague sign.
Except everything inside this bark
is healthy.
Some are adorned in orange-red circles,
the sign of reprieve...for now.
And then there's the surveyor's stakes,
plunged into earth
like someone's been killing a sleeping vampire.
In reality, they've awakened one.
