1 Poem by Michael Roque

Maybe you’re an umbrella
slammed out of shape by pounding showers.

Left bent and dilapidated
in a puddle,
recognizing in water’s reflection
a defective product,
who couldn’t weather the rain—
shelter from the storm.

Snapped plastic wondering why—
why you were dumped into the gutter,
deemed unworthy of repair?
