1 Poem by Richard Schnap

MOCKINGBIRD

When she found herself within
The parlors of the rich
She would speak to them as if
She’d been born to wealth herself

And when she bartered with merchants
For a more attractive price
Her voice acquired an edge
That would bend them to her will

And when she lectured children
They would hear a gentle tone
So that they would not fear her
And consider her a friend

But when she was alone
She talked sadly to her self
In a language she was saving
For the one yet to appear
