2 Poems by Jonathan Cooper

hospital garden

silence
stretches out

from an empty bed
through a blank window

and arched itself over
the small, green, hospital garden.

on a boat, Georgia Strait

Mount Baker towered above its collar of cloud. I leaned
the gunnel to spy the crags, the ledges, the icy ravines BLOOSH!!
SALT WATER! Cold face, blurry eyes–

sassy black fin
        slipping beneath the waves.
