She just passed through here,
a meteor burning bright
in the emptiness
where breathing time
is a happening, period.

Oh, but what am I to make
of your smile?


Alamgir Hashmi is the author of numerous books of poetry and literary criticism. He has taught as a university professor in North America, Europe, and Asia. His poetry and prose have appeared widely in journals and anthologies.
