1 Poem by Arlene Antoinette

Of the Sea

I’ve always been afraid/ of the sea/ Its power and viciousness/
as it pulls a weary soul/ deep into its icy crypt / engulfing them/
suffocating them/ demanding its victim/ to respect/ its strength/
I’ve always been afraid/ of my love for you/ your lukewarm response/
the hollow emotions/ as I sink deeper into your icy grip/
engulfing me/ suffocating me/ I struggle to grab hold/ of something a little
bit…tender/ something to entangle our humanness/ and make us both whole.
